Oi! Sky One! NO!
There came good news a while back... Sky One are making an adaptation of "The Colour Of Magic", the first of the brilliant Discworld series of books by Terry Pratchett - and I thought "Brilliant! They did a really good job with "The Hogfather"!".
But now I have a rant that I need to get off my chest - which I'm sure will be shared by just about every self-respecting Discworld fan on the face of the planet...
David Jason? To play Rincewind? What the bloody hell are you thinking!? Let's get this straight... anyone who knows and adores the Discworld books will know that, in terms of the wizards (sorry, wizzards), Rincewind is more or less a "teenager"! And, with the greatest of respect, David Jason isn't a young man anymore! Rincewind should be played by someone about 40... 45 tops. Yes, David was brilliant as Albert in "The Hogfather", but that's different - Albert IS an old man! If you can't get something as fundamental as that wrong, you don't have a bloody hope of getting some of the rest of the characters right! It's like getting a bloody Ikea flatpack storage box to play The Luggage! I beg you, Terry, don't allow any of the rest of the books to be filmed if they're going to balls it up to this extent! I will be sticking to the books, and won't be going to see the film, that's for sure!
I mean, here's the case in point...

And more like what Rincewind SHOULD look like...

And Scottish comedian Phil Kay, who I (along with others if some of the forums bemoaning this are to go by) think would make a good Rincewind...

Oh, hang on... What's that? David Jason's a producer for this Sky One project...? Ah... it's all making perfect sense now...

When I first heard the news about David Jason playing Rincewind I was as shocked as you are.
However, having been on set, once as an extra and once just watching some of the filming I have to say that David is a great actor. While hes might not look like your interpretation of Rincewind he has certainly made the character his own.
Having witnessed some of his interaction with Twoflower I am left with a feeling of great confidence that the programme will be excellent.
