Not-So-Tinpot Local Radio...

About 3 - 4 years ago, Orkney got its own commercial radio station for a while - granted a temporary licence, kind of as a test, and The Super Station Orkney was born... operating from a boat tied up at a local pier...

Well, finally they've got their permanent licence, and premises on land - and, as of today,
The Super Station Orkney is once more!

And it's great - because they play music from 60's to current, and not just what's "in", like Radio 1. So today I've been in heaven in the shop, listening to 80's music, 90's music... even Meat Loaf & Cher with "Dead Ringer For Love"!

Aside from that, today's been average... Work (God, the shop was quiet and boring today), a visit to my brother, and then home.

And that's pretty much it, my friends - Catch ya later!

Nouvelle Cuisine...

Now, I'm not that keen on last year's X-Factor winner, Leona Lewis... she's too Mariah / Whitney diva-ish for me... but her live cover of Snow Patrol's "Run" that she did in the Radio 1 Live Lounge a couple of weeks ago just blew me away...

"Bleeding Love"? You can bleeding keep it... Please release this, Leona's people... just as it is... It'll be number one for weeks!

The Musical Interlude...

Radio 1's Jo Whiley's had this as her Pick Of The Week this week, and it's beaten me into submission - Samim and "Heater"...

The video is just a series of random clips of half-dressed, half-cut clubbers in Ibiza...

It's just so catchy!

And, speaking of Radio 1, and tunes that get under your skin (not in a good way, this time), here's the tune that Scott Mills is trying to get into the chart this weekend...

It's by Jonny Trunk & Wisbey (WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO?) and is called "The Ladies Bras"... and is driving me crazy, coz I keep finding myself singing the damn thing!

The Musical Interlude... Extra...

Subtitled: Video Killed The Radio Star...

For those of you who are Radio 1 listeners, and who hear Edith Bowman in the afternoons, you'll be familiar with the feature she does when someone picks a topic that they're talking about that day, and gets everyone involved... and then she picks a song that kind of suits the topic.

Well, today's topic was allergies, and I was listening to it in the shop as I covered dinner... and there were no customers, and I was bored... so I picked up my mobile and fired off a quick text (as I've done a few times before)... It said (roughly)...

"Kiwi fruit make my lips & mouth itchy! And what about "In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins as the track? Ally, Orkney"

And at roughly 10 minutes to 2... my text was read out, and they played a snatch of Phil!

It's amazing how something so small left me grinning from lughole to lughole!

So, since they didn't pick my track (going for "Can't Touch This" by M.C. Hammer), here's my offering...

I'm going to do "Listen again" when I get home, just to relive my moment of radio fame!

The Musical Interlude...

Subtitled: RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWK!

Radio 1 yesterday was covering the Download festival, and I heard the following gems played:

Metallica - "Enter Sandman" (in fact, I'm sure I heard this played twice)...

And "Run To The Hills" by Iron Maiden...

Oh, and they played "Jump" by Van Halen again!
