A Month Of... Getting From A To B...

Today we hitch a lift on The Wurzels' "The Combine Harvester"... maybe not the most conventional mode of transport, but I don't imagine many people would argue with you if you wanted to squeeze it into that tiny gap driving one of them!

A Month Of... Getting From A To B...

If you're stuck behind a couple of caravans like we were yesterday, you've got the makings of a "Convoy"...

By C. W. McCall... from the film of the same name ("Convoy", not C. W. McCall... that wouldn't be a great name for a film)...

The scourge of the roads today... "Caravan Song" by Barbara Dickson...

And what's worse than being stuck behind a caravan? Being stuck behind TWO caravans... so here's a link to "Caravan Of Love" by The Housemartins.

A Month Of... Weather...

Last day of the weather theme today, and with winter fast approaching, let's give a wistful sigh as we look back and remember days of ice cream and walking around in sleeveless tops...

A Month Of... Weather...

Uh oh... I'm starting to run out of ideas for this month, folks... at least without repeating weather conditions lots of times (for instance, I could offer you so many songs about rain, or wind, or sunshine... but that's cheating).

Any suggestions gratefully received...

For now, let's have some Foreigner and "Cold As Ice"... can only find it live though, and it's not great...

A Month Of... Weather...

Wow... another day of sun in September in Orkney!

So let's celebrate with a bit of "Mr Blue Sky" by ELO...

A Month Of... Weather...

Okay, enough of this bad weather! The sun is shining here in Orkney today, so let's have a bit of "Summer Breeze" by The Isley Brothers...

Yes, I know this was originally by Seals & Croft, but I prefer this version...

A Month Of... Weather...

Okay, still on catch-up, and apologies for my memory... but Lindisfarne's "Fog On The Tyne" is also upwards in my brain... complete with Gazza (sorry, but I wasn't born for the original)...

A Month Of... Working On The Chain Gang...

Okay, yesterday's track was Metallica doing a cover of a Thin Lizzy song...

From Lizzy, we get to Elizabeth, then Elizabeth II... who is - of course - the Queen...

Queen and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"... a live performance...

A Month Of... Working On The Chain Gang...

Today's tenuous link hangs on the fact if you have a Crowded House, it might be a bit of a Squeeze inside... so we get "Up The Junction"...

A Month Of... Working On The Chain Gang...

From King and "Love & Pride" yesterday, we get to Tom Robinson Band and "Glad To Be Gay"...

How? From "Pride" to the "Gay Pride" festivals / marches to "Glad To Be Gay"... it's funny watching people sing this, because the chorus is so catchy it's so easy to start singing along by accident... and then they realise what they're singing and... suddenly... go... quiet...

Tom Robinson Band is one of these groups that I came to know by having siblings that are 14 or so years older than me... my sister likes them, and I got to know of a few other of their songs through her (everyone knows "2-4-6-8 Motorway", right? If not, check it out via the link, and also "Martin" (which is brilliant) and "Power In The Darkness", which is still powerful today).
