Today's Burning Question....

How does a cat know that rubbing your thumb and index finger together means "come here, puss"?

Who tells them?

Something Fishie Going On...

Okay, can someone answer me this?

How can Tesco Sushi be sushi when it declares in small print on the packaging that it "Contains No Raw Fish"?

I've been conned!

(It tastes okay, though... but I opened the wasabi and merely put a pinhead-sized bit on the tip of my tongue... The rest of the sachet went in the bin! Fuck! It's hot!)

Nearly Snood?

Caught a snatch of conversation on the radio yesterday, and suddenly something occurred to me...

If a "snood" is a garment that's a combination of a "scarf" and a "hood", then why isn't it called a "Scood"?

Where does the N come from?

Anybody got any ideas? Julie? Bri? :D

Under The Spell

Have you ever noticed how some words just don’t look right when you see them in print? Even when you know that they’re spelt correctly?

For example, every morning when the alarm on my phone goes off, and I press the “Snooze” button, I am convinced that Samsung have spelt “Snooze” wrong… but it’s obviously right, because the spellchecker here hasn’t picked it up as wrong.

And the other one that comes to mind is “Glory”. “Glory” just doesn’t look right as a word.

Is it just me?

The Hmmm... Post

Do you ever have one of those random thoughts that pop into your mind and then you just can't get rid of them?

Well, I do... and today's one just came out of nowhere as I was stumbling around, half-awake, getting ready for work.

It was along the lines of this...

"Hmmm... 'Disintegrated'... that's an interesting word. Well, 'integrated' just means joined together... so why do we associate 'disintegrated' with something that's not only separated, but is kind of blown apart so that nothing is left but dust? I mean, you would say, 'That plane flew into the side of a mountain, and it disintegrated', and everyone would assume that there was nothing left but debris. We never say that somebody's handwriting is 'disintegrated'... but surely that would be useable as a word... because it would just mean that they hadn't done joined up writing?"

Inside the head of this selkie is an interesting (albeit spacious and kind of echoey) place!

Anyway, enough of my ramblings... Gotta go!

Born To Rock...

Apr. 10th, 1970 - Mike Mushok, guitarist with Staind, was born...

"It's Been Awhile"... beware of language (it took me aaaaaaaages to find the uncensored version - I hate censored songs... they p(beep)s me right off!)...

Okay... I want some suggestions from you lot... I like this feature, but I'm fed up of the title (because, let's face it, some of the birthday celebrants are hardly "rock", are they?). So, thinking caps on - I need a new title. Something related to birthdays and music...

Speaking Of Cats In Hell...

Why is it that every time I have to make a phonecall, Minnie plants herself at my feet, looks up, and sits there meowing at me!? THE WHOLE DAMN TIME I'M TALKING!!!!

I was trying to moan at Sky tonight coz I'd missed a payment and had my satellite de-activated - that happened overnight on Sunday/Monday. So, Monday night as soon as I came home, I made a payment... but by 8:30pm tonight, my channels STILL weren't back on yet. So, there I am on the phone - and there's this furry wee pest sitting at my feet going "meow... meow... meow... meow... Mummy... pay attention to me now, please... meow..."

Anyone want a cat?

(Joke! You're not getting her really... she's my baby!) :^D

Can I Ask You A Personal Question?

Do you cry easily?

I ask because I was at the counsellor tonight, and she started probing some feelings... and I happened to look at the clock, which she took as a "get me out of here, before I start to cry" signal on my part (it wasn't), and started to tell me it was okay, that I could cry there...

But I can't... not in front of someone... not even on my own... It's like they're locked away...

I'm the closest I've been to crying tonight that I've been for a while, though... because we were talking about Dad, and I realised that I miss him so much... he was my support, and always believed in me... he always told me I was good at writing and stuff... and I miss that...

Question - Part 2

Erm, tell me... Is there some sort of sports thing going on in France today?

The radio's really not mentioning it enough...

(Yes, I'm being sarcastic... I know it's the England v. South Africa rugby final... and I'm sick to death of hearing about it...)

Question - Part 1

Spotted a blind girl with her guide dog on the way to work, and the dog had stopped for a pee... which set me wondering, and maybe some legal-minded blogger can answer this for me...

Is a blind person excempt from fines for dog fouling?

Please... I don't mean to be insulting... please don't think I'm taking the piss... if it sounds patronising, it's out of ignorance on my part.

I just wondered, if you can't see your dog's crapping on the pavement, can the law penalise you for it? Coz I hope they can't... that really wouldn't be fair.

Are You? Do You? Can You?

Okay, are you nicely limbered up and done all your stretching exercises? Here we go for another bout of facial contortions as you try this one out...

Can you touch your nose with your tongue? (And stop using your tongue to pick your nose... that's just yucky!)

I can't... my tongue must be too short (although I'm sure my family would refute that statement).

Are You? Do You? Can You?

Can you go cock-eyed?

I can't! No matter how hard I try, I just get a sore head and end up looking like a constipated camel.

(And, no, I've never actually seen a constipated camel, but it's how I imagine I look when I'm desperately trying to make both eyes look at my nose!)

Are You? Do You? Can You?

Okay, time for some audience participation to waken up you sleepy blog readers! I want some answers from you.... answers to random personality quiz type questions that occur to me - and, don't worry, I won't ask what I won't answer myself...

So, first nosey question:

Can you roll your tongue?

I can.

The Musical Interlude... A Question...

For those of you with a better memory than what I've got... goldfishes included...

I've had an attempt at doing the "This, That Or The Other?" type of thing before, haven't I?

If I have, I think I'll abandon it this time... Maybe I haven't, just something's niggling at me that I've done it already...

Hmm... Part 2...

The burning question bugging this poor bored little brain today is this:

If "many hands make light work" but "too many cooks spoil the broth", how many is just right?

Thursday, August 16, 2007

Hmm....

Why's a blog called a blog?

(Sorry... I'm bored, and the old mind's gone walkabout...)

Put Me Out Of My Misery...

I promise... this is my last post tonight!

When I came out of Lidl, there was a kind of open-air thing for young folk featuring young, local bands at the skatepark nearby, and I caught a snatch of what the band that were on were singing.

It was a cover, and all I heard (coz the wind was blowing the sound away) was something, something "bristle with the energy".

What the hell's the song? PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE someone leave a comment for me so I can find out tomorrow!

Thanks, Nev...

But my brother cleared up the "Heroes" mystery for me last night...

The actress' name is Lisa Lackey, and - believe it or not - I remember her from "Home & Away" about 12 years ago!

I can't even remember her character (she played Roxanne), but he printed the list, and that's the only thing on it I've watched!
