A Month Of... Around The World...

Day 3, and we touch down in Bosnia & Herzegovina with The Passengers and "Miss Sarajevo"...

The Passengers were, of course, the supergroup formed by U2, Brian Eno and the late Luciano Pavarotti... and there is a connection still to yesterday's country, as Bosnia & Herzegovina was conquered by the Austria-Hungarian empire in 1787, and annexed by them in 1908.

A Month Of... Going Around America...

Stopping off back in New York City again tonight, in the district that is home to The Globetrotters, a Shuffle, and U2's "Angel Of Harlem"... *

* That was dangerously close to another pun, and I apologise... Clearly the stinging nettles weren't enough of a punishment, so I'm off now to find some cacti to roll on...

Born To Rock...

May 10th, 1960 - Paul David Hewson, otherwise known as Bono, is born...

U2 and "Sunday Bloody Sunday"...

One thing I've noticed doing this is that sometimes you get "clusters" of musical talent born on the same day... and today is an example of this. If you look at May 10th, 1946, you've got Donovan, Graham Gouldman from 10cc, and Dave Mason from Traffic, all born that day. Makes you wonder if there was something in the stars that day...

Born To Rock...

Mar. 13th, 1960 - U2's bassist, Adam Clayton, is born...

And I'm happy, happy, happy - because the full version of my very favourite U2 song ever is finally on YouTube... my joy only slightly tempered by the fact that it's not a proper video, it's one that someone's made with images that "fit" the song's lyrics - But it's okay... just close your eyes and listen to it...

"Love Rescue Me"...

Like A Fine Wine...

U2 and "Pride (In The Name Of Love)"...

That was close... I'd forgotten to copy the link to the U2 video, so you nearly got Cliff again! Good job I hit "Preview"...

Shallow Al

Tonight's specimen is about as high as you can go... God himself - or as we know him better, Bono from U2...

I couldn't find the picture I really wanted, which dates from around the time of "The Joshua Tree" as well... and that's one of him in that leather waistcoat (no shirt underneath) and that hat - both of which looked like he'd worn them day and night for about 3 months! Corrrrrr! Oh, and the accent.... Sigh....

And this post is where I make probably my most cringe-worthy confession from my younger days - in the days when me and my friends would play "houses" or whatever scenario we were playing, my (always invisible, because there were never any boys to play) boyfriend was always called... you guessed it... Bono! (See, I told you it was cringe-making... you should see how scarlet my face is!).

Anyone got any embarrassing confessions to make me feel better? Please?

The Musical Interlude...

Subtitled: Wood-n't It Be Good? (Sorry, those puns really don't get any better, do they?)

A couple of live performances tonight - first from Stereophonics at Radio 1's One Big Weekend at Preston... My 2nd favourite song of theirs, after "Handbags & Gladrags" - "A Thousand Trees"...

Then one from U2, from their best era (imho) - the time of "The Joshua Tree" and "Rattle & Hum" albums... "One Tree Hill"...

Right, fingers crossed I can actually get this posted this time - I've already had IE crash twice trying to do it, and I've had to re-start my computer, physically turn it off and on again, and then I've had to delete the draft post and start over!

Grrr...

The Musical Interlude...

Subtitled: Gies a Kiss!

Any wandering Sausages (for those of you NOT in the know, visit
SausageNet Forums... last refuge of the clinically insane (and me), and oracle of all kids' TV knowledge - as well as home to some wonderful pointless wibbling) will no doubt have guessed what the first song tonight will be, seeing as I've just discovered that the uncredited singer on this song that sounds like Carly Simon is, in fact, Carly Simon!

Will Powers and "Kissing With Confidence" (God, they knew how to do cheese in the 80's!)...

"Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" by U2...
