A Bit Of Meat Loaf...

Yes, I admit it... in fact, I'm proud of it... It's time to come out of the closet....

I am a humungous Meat Loaf fan!

I love his voice... I love the songs (God bless Jim Steinman... you write beautiful songs)... "Bat Out Of Hell" was the first album I bought on CD, and I love it more now than I did way back then...

So every so often you'll get a slice or two of Meat Loaf - starting with probably my favourite... "For Crying Out Loud"...

And "Two Out Three Ain't Bad"...

For you youngsters reading this who haven't heard "Bat Out Of Hell", I urge you... go buy it... It's simply a fantastic album. You can read all about it here... facts like it's still selling some 200,000 copies a year! And it spent an unbelievable 474 weeks on the UK album charts... that's around about 9 years! Can you really see an Arctic Monkeys' album hanging around THAT long on the charts? I don't think so!

What? I'm ranting? Oh.... erm... okay. *blush*

Like A Fine Wine...

Classics come in all shapes, sizes and music styles... even Country (Yee-haw!), and this is one of my favourites - Kris Kristofferson and "Me And Bobby McGee"...

It's been covered by various artists, most famously Janis Joplin - just a few days before she died.

In fact, Kris wasn't the first person to have a hit with it, but he wrote the song... and I think it really suits his voice... so that's why I'm going with his version.

Like A Fine Wine...

80's? Yes.... Cheese? No way!

It's been a while since I last checked YouTube for this, and imagine my squeak of joy when I found it there tonight... The late, bloody fantastic Kirsty MacColl and "There's A Guy Works Down The Chipshop Swears He's Elvis"...

It's not the best quality video, but at least it's there!

Like A Fine Wine...

RAWK!!!!

Golden Earring and "Radar Love"...

Love the irony of the car he's driving in the video! For such a rock tune, that appears on just about every "driving" compilation available, you'd expect something a bit more "Grrr", wouldn't you?!

Like A Fine Wine...

A nice big glass o' rhubarb wine for Julie, since she's now an old fart..... Prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrp!

A bit of Paul Simon for you, m'dear... and I think I've done this one before, but it was before I started labelling posts, so it's long enough ago to justify doing it again... "The Obvious Child"...

And a bonus - "Me & Julio Down By The Schoolyard"... Well, you can't have just ONE glass of wine on your birthday, can you?

Is this the American video or something? It's not the one I remember - The black & white one with the circles...

That was close... I'd forgotten to copy the link to the U2 video, so you nearly got Cliff again! Good job I hit "Preview"...

Like A Fine Wine...

George Michael's definitely done his best work post-Wham! (not that that would be difficult, really), and some of his ballads are simply beautiful.

Here's a couple of my favourites, starting with "Praying For Time"... I love the words of this, they're just so touching...

And then "I Can't Make You Love Me" (originally done by Bonnie Raitt)...

Like A Fine Wine...

The King... Now, I'm not the World's biggest Elvis Presley fan, and it could be argued that there are songs he did more deserving of the term "classic", but the one that gets me every time is this one...

"In The Ghetto"...

Where do you stand on the whole Blur / Oasis thing? Southern Art Student Music? Or Northern Yob Rock?

Me, I'm Oasis all the way (okay, there are a few Blur songs I quite like).

So the "Wine" post today is Oasis, and "Wonderwall"...

And don't you dare even MENTION Mike Flower's Pops or I'll come and put a bat up your nightdress!

Like A Fine Wine...

Sometimes it's a very grey area between "Cheese" and "Wine", and today's could have gone either way...

Bryan Adams and "Summer Of '69"...
