I'm Feeling Really Guilty...

I started this week off with a cold... a real stinker of a cold...

By Wednesday I had given it to Viki... and to my brother.

It has to be said, I'm not really feeling guilty about giving it to my brother... every time I get a cold he takes the piss and complains that I can't just die quietly... so when he texted me to say "Thanks... you've given me your scabbie cold", part of me went "Hee, hee".

But now poor Viki's got it... and worse than I have / had it. She went through about 4 little packets of tissues yesterday, and the day before, she came home from work and spent the rest of the night asleep on the sofa. And last night / this morning, she was coughing so bad she was nearly sick.

So... I'm sorry, my poor draga... I promise to keep my germies to myself in future (or at least, give them all to David instead).

Puszak!

Sick Selkie Syndrome

Okay, time for a health update...

Starting with the fact that I have got my second cold of the season (although it doesn't seem THAT long since I was having my last cold of the summer season)... I've got a chesty cough, bunged-up nose, and a death rattle every time I breathe!

Then there's the on-going saga with my leg, and the tests I've been going for (see here for most of the gory details)... Well, now I'm on 2 lots of anti-biotics, because I've managed to get a bug back in the wound (it's that well-known one that's an anagram of the 4th planet from the sun), and I've been prescribed Metformin as well for the glucose intolerance / PCOS (which it's beginning to look more and more like I've got, but I need one more blood test yet to confirm)... combine those tablets (5 a day) with the vitamins and supplements I'm taking, AND the decongestants and cough medicine I've now got, and I'm like a walking pharmacy!

And, without going into too much detail yet (I'll bore you more with this in the beginning of the new year, when it's likely to happen), the "next step" for my leg is going to be embarrassing in the extreme, and not a lot of fun... let's just say it involves a dirty great big bandage, a blockage somewhere in my lymphatic system, and 2 - 3 weeks of hobbling around looking like I've broken my leg!

It's 25 Past 11....

at night, and I've just nipped on to quickly say...

"3 days til Viki comes".

Now I'm going to bed because:

a. I'm cold, and my cold hasn't buggered off yet.
b. My leg is nipping a bit after the dressing was changed today.
c. I watched the first episode of series 3 of "Heroes" earlier, and I'm confused already... and also I'm going to go and dream about the Petrelli brothers... Hubba!

So, cheerio... and I'll hopefully feel a bit better tomorrow.

Sorry our chat was so short tonight, Viki. Puszas.

The Cat Spot (2)...

Another lolcat by me - still on the "I've got the cold" theme...

I've created another couple (one lolcat and a loldog) that I will post tomorrow... or you can have a sneaky peek at them, and all my other attempts, here.

Yep, I'm still sickly... spent all day coughing and sneezing (had a major sneezing session just around lunchtime).

Have been told by 2 others who have had it that (first guy) "it goes really quickly... mine lasted about a week" and then (second guy) "it lasts ages, I've had it 2 weeks now, and I lost my voice"... Great(!)

Oh, and I'm getting the blame for giving it to my brother... Oops...

Moar Pleh!

A lolcat by me...

A reflection of how I'm feeling. Remember I said yesterday morning that I had a bunged-up nose and thought I might be getting the cold? Well, that was about half past 8... and by 10am I was coughing so hard I would get dizzy, and sometimes I just couldn't get my breath properly.

Struggled through work until stopping time at 4pm, and then got a taxi down to the chemist for some cough medicine (I want this gone before Viki comes) and some decongestant tablets for my nose, because I could feel my sinuses getting sore - and I really didn't want that, because when my sinuses get blocked, they get really, really sore... kinda like someone hitting you in the face with a sledgehammer.

Watched a film last night, sat on the sofa under a blanket... "Catch & Release" - not that great really, but a bit of a no-brain chick-flick, and it only cost £5 in Woolies yesterday.

Didn't have that great a sleep... was sore and coughing and couldn't get comfy. At one point I woke up thinking it must be about 5o'clock, and when I looked at the clock, it wasn't even 3am. Knew then it was going to be a long night.

Had an appointment with someone at the house at 10o'clock this morning, so couldn't even have a lie-in... although I did get that sleepy this afternoon that I just had to go back to bed for a few hours. And I've not really done anything of any consecquence today... just coughed and sneezed blown my nose.

And now I'm off to bed... hopefully to sleep, and hopefully I'll waken up feeling soooo much better tomorrow. (No, I'm not betting on it).

Oh, I must have done something to please the karma gods this week though - I won £20 on the lottery last night!

Today I Have Mostly Been...

... er, coughing and blowing my nose, actually.

Boss went away today (comes back Thursday sometime), and Flunky & I have spent the day comparing symptoms (he's got this cold too) and arguing over who is closest to dying (er, me).

At the moment I'm sitting with a steam bottle thing beside me filled with hot water and some menthol crystals, and I'm having a tentative sniff at it every so often (it's damn near blowing me heid aff!).

Got a bottle of Benylin for the day time, and some extra strong stuff with paracetamol for night-time use - because I had a crap sleep last night. Was okay for the first while after I laid my book down. Seemed to get off to sleep no bother, and then woke up what I thought would be about 6o'clock... only to look at the clock beside me, which was registering 02:39. After that, I only slept in fits & starts.

Hold on... *sniff* ow, ow, ow... ack, ack, ack! Stupid menthol!

Oh, well... Off for a quick potter around before I take my industrial strength gloop (which is aniseed flavour... ick) and go to bed.

See ya (if I survive the night... lol... *koff*).

Bloody Hell, Folks

I don't know what it's like where you are, but in bonny Orkney tonight it's cold enough to freeze the cassocks off a brass monk, and everywhere is covered in a layer of lovely, sparkly - and very, very slippery - frost!

Seriously, the roads and pavements are like a skating rink! It was slippy when I went to work this morning, it thawed a bit (where the sun shone) all day - and as soon as it got dark down came the ice again... meaning it was already slippy when I finished work at 5pm.

And, speaking of roads, I wish I could line our roads department up against the wall and shoot the whole bloody lot of them... Remember I told you on Monday that they road men were digging up outside the house again? Well, they've turned the bit outside my house, going up to a housing scheme, into a no-through road! There's a big square in front of the house, and they've put a kerb right across it - effectively cutting my house off from the rest of the street (I'm the top house). It means now that to get to the taxi in the morning, I have 3 choices:

1. Go down the road a bit.
2. Go along the road a bit.
3. Get the taxi to go down my road, along another road, up a road, round a corner, along a road, round another corner and down a bit to get to the parking space outside my house.

I'll take a photo once they've finished so you can see how bloody stupid the idea is. I'm actually glad Dad's not here anymore, because there's no way he'd have been able to walk the distance out or down the road to where the taxi would stop... and I'd bet that at least 90% of taxi drivers wouldn't go the longer route to get a 90 year old man to his gate!

And all this because somebody complained that the road is "dangerous" for kids playing - despite the fact I've not heard of any accidents in the 20+ years I've lived here... and despite the fact that there's a big sign on the wall a bit above my street that says "NO BALL GAMES" - so they're not MEANT to play there!

Grrrrrrrr.

Work was boring as hell today. In the office, catching up on what I can't do when I'm in the shop... and it's flipping cold in our main building (the shop's lovely and warm because the heating needs to be on to keep the paper dry - no such luxury in the electrical bit). Boss buggered off for a while at lunchtime, then mid-afternoon, then decided he'd go home 10 minutes before 5o'clock, and leave muggins to close up. So I didn't get past Starbucks for my usual XL gingerbread latte with cream - and I'd had no coffee all day, because every time the boss went out, he "forgot" to buy milk! So, no caffeine, and no warm liquid to warm me up... Is it any wonder I'm a little wound up?

Tomorrow I plan to do as little as possible. Not heard from my friend yet, but I suspect tomorrow's not going to be ideal for balloon-releasing either. I don't think it's going to be windy enough... and if it's still freezing, I'd rather not venture too far. I've no desire to start 2008 with any broken bones, thank you very much!

Right... I'm off to (possibly) treat myself to a Sky Box Office film. I kinda fancy seeing "Hairspray" - just for the absurdity of John Travolta in a fat-suit and frock. It might be funny... But, on the other hand, it might just be cringeworthy. Oh, what a dilemma...

Okay, see ya!

Sniff... Sniff... Koff... Koff... Ow...

In case the title of this post hasn't alerted you, I'm feeling ill... and I'm blaming getting wet on Saturday...

Yesterday I made my dinner... a chicken breast with stir-fry noodles and vegetables... and I sat down to eat it... and had no appetite at all. I ate the chicken, and the noodles and all went in the bin. Apart from watching TV yesterday, I pretty much just slept.

And today I've had that horrid burning sensation I get in my nose that precedes an outbreak of sinusitis... and as I'm sitting here typing this, I can feel the heaviness in my head start, and the pain behind my eyes and across my cheeks... God, I hate sinusitis... It just hurts like hell.

I did eat my dinner tonight, but didn't enjoy it... and now I wish I hadn't bothered, because I've got indigestion on top of everything else!

I've had the sensation of being just about to sneeze for the last 2 hours, but there's no sneeze there to come...

I wish I had the energy to tell you more about my day, because I had a wonderful "Flunky Logic" story to tell you... but I can't be arsed. If I survive until tomorrow, remind me "Flunky" and "barbecue chicken pizza" and I'll tell you...

Work was average.

Right, I'm buggering off to bed now... with possibly one, possibly two, cats on top of me - God, I hope they don't start a territorial dispute over my left boob (which is the preferred place for each of them to lie)!

Night...
