Born To Rock...

Jan. 14th, 1969 - and the world becomes a more musical place, with the birth of one David Eric Grohl...

Foo Fighters and "The Last Song"...

And imagine how shitten on I feel tonight, having thought that he was singing "Alison" (and therefore giving me a namecheck, sort of) - and now I've checked the lyrics, and it's "I listen".

Never mind - I still love ya, Foos!

The Foo(d) Of Love...

"Breakout" - another of their videos that makes me laugh.

I love how they're not afraid to look stupid and take the pi$$ out of themselves!

The Foo(d) Of Love...

Okay, okay - Regular blog readers will know that I would rank Foo Fighters as one of my favourite bands, and you know how much I love "Learn To Fly"... but in the last couple of days some of the music channels on satellite have been playing other ones of their videos, ones I'd not really seen before (because before I had Sky, I didn't really have access to music vids) - and as well as being a really great performance band, they do some brilliant videos!

So I plan to share some others with you, if that's okay by you... starting with "The One"...

Apologies, because the video's maybe not the best quality, but it's still a goodie (and note Jack Black's there again... that's at least 3 Foo's (Foos'?) videos he appears in - This one, of course, because he was in the film "Orange County", and this song's on the soundtrack).

(Oh, and if you want to see some I've posted already, click on the "Foo Fighters" label below this post, and it'll take you to them).

The (New) Music Interlude...

It had to appear... The latest offering from Foo Fighters - "Long Road To Ruin"...

The video's directed by the same guy who did their "Learn To Fly" video, which regular blog readers will know is one of my two favourite songs & videos of all time. I don't think this video's quite as funny (maybe down to what happens to poor DG at the end), but it makes me laugh to see that the wardrobe department were able to re-use the dodgy 'tache from LTF for Dave!

The Musical Interlude... Extra...

Subtitled: Aaargh! :^O

I swear to god, I saw the video for this song for the first time in the wee small hours of Saturday night / Sunday morning, in a fever, and I have just one word for it... WRONG, so wrong!

It's Foo Fighters and "Low"... featuring Jack Black again...

If you make it as far as 4minutes, 31seconds, I think that's the wrongest bit... but I'll let you find it for yourself...

The Boss Was In A Good Mood This Morning...

And it was all thanks to this... The Eagles' new single from their first new studio album since 1979... Radio 2 had their first play of it this morning...

"How Long?"

My boss is a huge Eagles' fan, and he got me into them a bit too, just by how he raved about them...

Music's played a big part in our day at work today, because Flunky and I were having a very long, very involved and very serious discussion (okay, arguement) this afternoon over what made a band or musician a "Legend", and whether Dave Grohl / Foo Fighters could be called Legends yet... you can guess what side of that arguement I was sitting...

Time Of The Month!

When I'm thinking what music videos I'm going to post for you, I keep getting drawn towards my 2 favourite videos of all time... but I keep thinking "Nah, it's not that long since I posted them... I really can't bore my readers with them again..."

Well, I've decided it's my blog, and yes... I can bore you with them! So, once a month... on a random date, you will be treated to these!

Foo Fighters - "Learn To Fly"...

Tenacious D - "Tribute"...

The rule I'm giving myself is that I can only post them once per calendar month... but the date is open.

Now You See It, Now You Don't...

Now You Do Again!

Yesterday I posted the official video for the Foo Fighters' new single "The Pretender", only to have to remove it again, because YouTube had had to withdraw all the videos due to a copyright claim from RCA Records.

Well, now RCA Records themselves have posted the video, so here it is back again...

But I stand by the comments I made... I still prefer their funnier videos, like "Everlong" and "Learn To Fly" (which I think is probably my favourite music vid ever)... and Dave Grohl does need a haircut!

Shallow Al

A new post, named in honour of the film "Shallow Hal" - the one about the guy who was obsessed with looks until he was hypnotised... you know the one I mean?

Well, I'm shallow... I appreciate the male form - quite a lot of male forms, if the list of actors & singers, etc. I made last night is anything to go by... These are the guys I look at in something and that little voice in my head goes "Phwoar".

However, it's also occurred to me that perhaps some of my choices are a bit... well... unconventional (if the startled reaction of people who go "YUK!" when I tell them is anything to go by). So, because of that, I've spent the last couple of hours trying to get one of those little "5 star rating" widgetty thingies into blog posts so you could tell me if I'm right or wrong, but I bloody well give up. I'm not technically-minded, and all this html stuff just goes right over my head! So, if you want to laugh at my taste in famous totty, you can do it by comment.

First on my list (not necessarily FIRST, these are in no particular order) is Foo Fighters' lead singer, Dave Grohl...

Now, you have to agree with this choice, surely? There's a Queens Of The Stone Age video a bit further down, and he's playing the drums - and even pounding hell out of them, he looks hot.

And it's not just the fact he's gorgeous... he's talented (drummer, guitarist, singer, songwriter), effortlessly cool, and when I've heard him on the radio, he's been witty, cool and... and... and I'm trying to think how to say he seems so nice, without using the word "nice". Oh, and you can't see them here, but he's got those tribal swirl tattoos on his arms & shoulders... and I love good tattoos on a guy (GOOD tattoos... not "Mum" and an anchor!)

So... am I right?

ps. some of the guys featured in this feature will be former phwoars, and some current phwoars... the former ones I've grown out of... Dave Grohl wasn't a former phwoar - I don't think I was really aware of existence when he was in Nirvana... and looking back at some of the photos from then, I'd say he's definitely got better with age!

The Musical Interlude...

Subtitled: In The Days Of The Cavemen...

This was played on Kerrang's music channel this morning (which I've taken to watching, coz in the middle of the night they do music videos with sign language, and it's hysterical to watch!)... Queens Of The Stone Age (with Dave Grohl from The Foo Fighters on drums... sighhhhh...) and "No One Knows"...

What's going on? I thought your music tastes were meant to moderate as you got older? I mean, I'm 33... in 15 years I should be hurrying down to the local music shop for the latest Daniel O'Donnell CD! (Promise me you'll shoot me if I do). I'm suddenly getting into louder and heavier stuff... I was never into AC/DC or anything like that when I was young, but now I like My Chemical Romance and stuff like the above. The funniest thing about that is when I bought "American Idiot" by Green Day from our local supermarket... the 18 year-old wannabe emo on the checkout looked at the CD, looked at me, and gasped "YOU like Green Day?" :-D

But there's still room in my music collection for things like this - Was (Not Was) and "Walk The Dinosaur"... I guess you could call my tastes eclectic!

Great Moments In Cinema...

And TV - Part 33

Did you figure out my oh-so-subtle clues I gave you in "The Musical Interlude..." then?

Let's examine the evidence...

Liam Lynch? Amazingly, he directed this film...
Foo Fighters? Dave Grohl had a starring role (reprising a character he'd played before) in the film... although you maybe wouldn't have recognised him, since he looked a "hornier" than he usually does (impossible as it may seem)...

Yep, it is (of course) the mighty "Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny"... and here's the opening song - "Kickapoo", featuring Meat Loaf and Dio - and the little kid playing JB is amazing!

IMDb page here: www.imdb.com/title/tt0365830/
Tenacious D website here: www.tenaciousd.com/

Why should you watch this film?: Cause it's a bad-ass, laugh-a-minute, rocking riot! I just watched it today, and I about wet myself laughing!

Oh, and as a special treat (one that doesn't appear anywhere on the DVD... gutted)... Here is the mighty "Tribute" video, starring some of the familiar faces from the film...

And for those of you who aren't easily offended, and have a sense of humour, here's a link to the video for "Fuck Her Gently"... www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvNPKeJ4ZUo
